Officers fired 96 shots in 41 seconds at 26-year-old Dexter Reed of Chicago. Reed was driving his car and was stopped by police for allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.

The videos, captured by officers' body cameras, show officers getting out of a plainclothes vehicle and surrounding Reed's car. The young man staggers out of the vehicle and collapses on the street. He was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later. Police violence – especially against black people – has long been a massive problem in the USA. After the killing of the American George Floyd by police officer Derek Chauvin, people even protested around the world in 2020. In 2023, the U.S. Department of Justice will come to the conclusion that police violence is a systemic problem. Officials would use excessive force against minorities. The family mourns the loss of their son and brother. In an interview, the man's mother expressed her shock at the situation: "He was just driving around in his car. They killed him"
