The crisis began last Wednesday, with criticism from Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, over the conduct of the 2023 Ecuadorian presidential election. On Friday, police officers stormed the embassy to arrest Jorge Glas, an intrusion into a diplomatic compound without recent precedent anywhere in the world.
