President Macky Sall announced on Saturday the indefinite postponement of the presidential election, which was to be held on February 25. His decision comes after the introduction of a bill by the opposition Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) to delay the vote.

The President's last major address to the nation seven months ago, to indicate that he would not run for a third term, led to appeasement. Since 1963, this is the first time that a presidential election has been postponed in Senegal.
