Demonstrations against postponement and power of President Macky Sall took place in Dakar as well as in several cities across the country. In Saint-Louis, in the north of the country, a second-year geography student, Alpha Yoro Tounkara, was killed.
In Dakar, the police used tear gas extensively to disperse the hundreds of people who sought to gather near the Place de la Nation. Protesters responded by throwing stones and setting up barricades with makeshift objects, including planks and stones.
