Leaked emails prove this. Zdanoka has been known for her pro-Russian positions for many years. She took part as an international observer in a mock referendum on Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 that was widely viewed as illegitimate. In spring 2022, she was one of 13 members of the EU parliament who voted against a resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
