Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced his desire to “evolve” the regulations on social housing. In reaction, the mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre Hurmic, and several city councilors wrote him an open letter to express their “ very strong concern” Adopted in 2000 and strengthened in 2013, the law relating to solidarity and urban renewal stipulates that municipalities with more than 3,500 inhabitants must have 25% of social housing by 2025.

A quota which inconveniences some elected officials, particularly on the Côte d'Azur, who prefer to pay heavy fines rather than build HLM.
