The federal and state governments are postponing their fundamental decision on permanently higher federal funds for refugee costs. This emerges from a decision that the prime ministers agreed with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on Wednesday evening.

The decision in principle is to be made at the next regular meeting in November. The German government is expected to make a decision on the issue by the end of the year or early in the new year. It is expected that the decision will be made on a permanent basis.
