The Court of Cassation definitively validated the dismissal of charges granted in the name of self-defense to a police officer who killed a motorist in Paris in August 2018. Romain C., 26, drove a car with a faulty light in the center of the capital and fled after refusing to submit to police check.

The police officer Kévin G., then aged 23, chased him, repeatedly telling him to stop before he the motorist finds himself stuck almost 2 km further on. The officer fired a shot aimed at the driver's arm, which fatally injured the latter in the chest.
