Risky jump into hot water: municipal utilities compete with MAN and GfA in deep geothermal energy. The first test drillings are planned for 2025, the costs are estimated at 20 million euros.

“We have to hit a puddle at a depth of two kilometers with a drill as thick as our arm” says GfS boss Thomas König. The company received the so-called mining permit months ago for its claims – in modern German: drilling areas. Drilling will begin next year and the connection to the Karlsfeld district heating network will take place in 2026.
