Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Islamic-conservative AKP and challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu of the CHP are up for election. Neither candidate was able to claim the necessary absolute majority in the first round of voting on 14 May 2023.
Around 60 million eligible voters are called upon to cast their ballots and thus decide who will govern the country as president for the next five years. The president has also managed to secure the support of Sinan Ogan, the candidate of the nationalist ATA party.
