A resident of the Russian region of Omsk, in Siberia, accused of trying to pass military information to Germany. He was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in a harsh prison camp.

Trials for “espionage” or “high treason” have multiplied in recent years in Russia, particularly since the start of Moscow's assault on Ukraine in February 2022. Russian authorities regularly claim to foil plots or operations carried out according to them by Westerners.
