Finland closed all eight border crossings with its eastern neighbor in mid-December last year because around 1,300 asylum seekers and undocumented migrants had arrived since the summer. In January, Finland extended its border closure until at least April 14 and said it saw “no signs that Russia is changing its behavior” According to Finnish border authorities, 3,000 asylum seekers, mostly from the Middle East and Africa, are still waiting for the border to be opened.
