Matteo Salvini, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, said he would hold a new referendum on the use of nuclear energy in Italy. Salvini responded to journalists on the topic, after a referendum to repeal it in 1987 stopped theUse of nuclear power in Italy, before speaking at the conference 'Italiannuclear power in the challenge to climate change' organized by iWeek at the University of Pavia.

"I would do it tomorrow morning too," Salvini said, in response to a question on whether or not he would be in favor of holding a new vote on nuclear energy. "It would be the right thing to do," he said, adding that he would vote for it in the next referendum, if it was held today or the next day. "We need to have a referendum on nuclear power," he added, "because it is the future of the country." "It is the only way to solve the problem of climate change," said Salvini. "Nuclear power is the answer to the climate change challenge," said iWeek's editor-in-chief, Francesca Graziano.
