[HIGHLIGHTS] Scientists Bonnie Bassler, Jeffrey Gordon and Peter Greenberg win the Princess of Asturias for illuminating the social life of bacteria

Three U.S. researchers have won the 2023 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research.

Jeffrey Gordon was "the pioneer" in the study of the human microbiome, the microorganisms present in the digestive system. The prize is the seventh of eight international awards to be announced this year by the Princess ofAsturias Foundation. 40 nominations from 16 countries were eligible for the award. The latest, Concordia, will be announced in October, with the ceremony to be held on June 14.
