Scientists prepare to study one of the mysteries of the Sun during the total eclipse. For astrophysicists, the event is a rare opportunity to study the Sun, especially its rarely seen outer atmosphere or corona.

The eclipse “is truly a miracle of our universe,” they say. Many researchers plan to collect data on the solar atmosphere from other perspectives during the eclipse. Several spacecraft, including NASA's Parker Solar Probe, will have their eyes on the Sun throughout the celestial event.
