Securing heat supply for the future: funding for a geothermal energy project in the Munich district. The underground in and around Munich is to be explored for additional thermal water deposits over an area of around 1000 square kilometers.

The research project can now officially begin, will run for four years and is intended to pave the way for the regional transition to a climate-neutral, safe and affordable heat supply. The deep, Upper Jurassic thermal water reservoir in the greater Munich area is currently being used by more than 42 boreholes with a total thermal output of around 400 megawatts.
