The 70-year-old retiree knocked down a DIRA agent in March 2023, near La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime). A second official was also seriously injured in this collision.
The septuagenarian had been driving for fifty-two years and had never had an accident. The defense had requested acquittal and mentioned “an exemplary driver” having lost only four points in recent decades. The wife of the deceased official spoke of “a relief” and a “significant” sanction. The driver was sentenced to an eight-month suspended prison sentence in accordance with the prosecution's requisitions made last March. Her license was also cancelled, she will not be able to retake it for a year. The driver mowed down and threw an agent of the Atlantic Interdepartmental Roads Directorate (DIRA) more than 20 meters from the point of impact. Father of two teenagers aged 12 and 16, the 45- year-old civil servant died instantly.
