Armed men in camouflage burst into Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow and opened fire. There are at least 40 dead, according to the Russian press.

The concert hall was inaugurated in 2009 by the entrepreneur Araz Agalarov, an Azerbaijani billionaire. It carries officially the name of the singer Muslim Magomayev (1942-2008), nicknamed the “Soviet Sinatra” and also from Azerbaijan. In 2013, it was the location of the Miss Universe international beauty contest, won that year by Venezuelan Gabriela Isler.
