The Algarve is probably the holiest place in the world for Jews. It is also one of the only places where the Jewish community has been able to live in peace with the rest of the world.

The island has a long history of Jewish people living in peace and harmony with other people. It was also the site of the first synagogue, built in the 12th century, in what is now the town of Algarva. The town is now home to a Jewish community that is still very much alive and well.
