Number of endometriosis diagnoses in Germany has increased by 65 percent in the last decade. But many cases still go unrecognized, according to a study by the Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance in Germany.

The disease can manifest itself in severe abdominal pain, cramps, burning pain during sexual intercourse, nausea and vomiting. The study examined billing data from more than 35 million legally insured women and girls from 2012 to 2022. According to experts, the first symptoms appear on average from the age of 21 and the disease is often only recognized years later.
