Number of endometriosis diagnoses in Germany has increased by 65 percent in the last decade. But many cases still go unrecognized, according to a new study.

The Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance in Germany examined cross-health insurance billing data from more than 35 million legally insured women and girls from 2012 to 2022. In 2022, doctors diagnosed endometiosis in around 10 out of 1,000 women and girl, the study finds. Almost 340,000 patients received this diagnosis in 2022. According to experts, the first symptoms appear on average from the age of 21.
