Peter Pellegrini, a long-time ally of Prime Minister Robert Fico, wins Slovak presidential election. He defeated pro-European diplomat Ivan Korcok with 53.20% of the votes.

Turnout in the second round of voting stood at 61.12% on Saturday. The president ratifies international treaties, appoints key judges, and is commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Although his powers are limited, the president can veto laws passed by Parliament.
