Torrential rains, after months of extreme drought, led to the cancellation of Good Friday religious processions, notably in Seville. Seville Mayor José Luis Sanz said this year's "La Madruga" would only be a "fleeting memory" because of the rain.

The rainy weather is expected to last at least until Monday, jeopardizing other processions planned for the weekend. Four people died Thursday in three incidents on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Spain after falling into the sea.
