Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin asked prefects on Sunday to strengthen security in front of Jewish places of worship and religious schools. The decision was taken due to the "very high level of the terrorist threat," the minister says.
He also calls for the establishment of “regular visits by police and gendarmerie forces” in front to “specialized businesses,” he adds. The Jewish Passover (April 22 to 30) approaches, and the minister asks them to pay “attention” to services and gatherings which “ traditionally concentrate large audiences” The Minister of the Interior also requests that “systematic static guards be put in place” at religious schools and from Monday, at student entry and exit times. “It is up to you to requisition the Sentinel soldiers for this purpose,’ the minister writes in a telegram to Prefects. “The security forces will naturally not be able to carry out these missions alone,“ the minister adds.
