The spectacular lightning strike was accidentally recorded by a student pilot and aircraft enthusiast. Lightning strikes are not uncommon, but it is much less likely that someone will film the spectacle. Modern aircraft are protected from electrical impulses by special insulating materials, which means that the probability of a failure of the on-board electronics is only two percent.
