Preliminary results of a nationwide study by Fulda University show big differences in the density of abortion practices. Unintentionally pregnant women find it more difficult to find an abortion practice in East Hesse than in the rest of Hesse.

Around 4.5 million people in Germany live outside of "reasonable accessibility" next offer for an abortion. Almost a third of women have a high level of “internalized” stigma for terminating a pregnancy, the study shows. The final report with recommendations for action will be available in the fall.. Women who want to terminate a pregnancy sometimes have to travel long distances. The data here suggests that abortions cost more in regions with poorer care than in regions where there is a higher density of practices that perform such procedures.. The researchers came to the conclusion that there were no long-term effects on women's mental health. This applies both to pregnant women who carry the child to term and to those who decide to have an abortion - both groups of women are mentally worse off than before.
