Successful protests after local elections in Turkey: Pro-Kurdish politician becomes mayor. Turkey's supreme electoral authority has reversed the decision.

The authority gave Zeydan the mandate for the mayor's office in the eastern Turkish city of Van. There were protests in the Turkish Kurdish areas and in Istanbul, among others. Almost 90 people were arrested in Van and six other cities. The prefecture of Van banned all protests and the arrival of people suspected of “wanting to take part in illegal gatherings in the province” for the next two weeks.
