The UN Security Council will rule on Friday on a call for a ceasefire in Sudan during Ramadan which begins early next week. The draft text, which to be adopted must receive at least nine favorable votes, without a veto from the five permanent members.

The fighting, which has raged since April 15, 2023 between the army of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane and the Rapid Support Forces (FSR, paramilitary) of General Mohammed Hamdane Daglo, has killed thousands.
