Quakes are increasing in Vogtland. The cause could lie deep in the earth's crust, but the exact connections are still unclear.

The strongest quake to date in this series occurred on Sunday, April 7, with a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale. According to an expert, the risk of earthquakes, especially in Bavaria, is growing. The depth of the hypocenters suggests a tectonic origin. The quakes were concentrated in three clusters located northeast of Klingenthal, a district town in Saxony, and south of the Czech municipality of Bublava. Such swarms occurred repeatedly in 1897, 1903, 1908, 1936 and 1962. In the winter of 1985, an earthquake reached a. magnitude of 4.6 and is considered the strongest in the region. Phases of earthquakes were also recorded in 2008, 2011, 2014 and 2018. A “very unusual” series of 15 earthquakes occurred in Tyrol within ten days. One expert now believes that a major catastrophe is possible at any time.
