Syria has extended for three months the authorization to deliver humanitarian aid to quake-affected rebel areas through two border crossings from Turkey. After a request from the UN, Damascus "allowed the UN to continue using the Bab al-Salama and al-Rai border crossings for another three months" The February 6 earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria killed nearly 6,000 people.

The UN says Syria will need at least $15 billion to recover from the earthquake that killed nearly 4 million people in northern and northwestern Syria.
