The accident occurred yesterday around 6pm local time (5pm in Italy) at the Sarisu-Tünektepe cable car. 128 people spread across 16 cabins have been put on board, although 43 are still stuck, waiting for help.

500 rescuers including firefighters and medical workers are at work on site, assisted by 7 helicopters. Ankara's Ministry of Justice announced that an investigation had been opened into the incident. The cable car leads to a panoramic point above the seaside resort of Antalya, in southern Turkey. At least one passenger died when a cabin fell into the rocky ground below, causing the death of at least one person. The accident is being investigated by the Turkish Ministry of Health, according to the Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca. The cause of the accident is not yet known, but it is believed to have been caused by the collapse of a pylon along the tourist cable car which leads to the resort. The incident is being treated as an accident by Turkish authorities.
