Takerufuji, a 24-year-old, 143 kilo young man, won the Emperor's Cup on Sunday. He broke a record more than 110 years old by taking victory in the spring tournament.
He started playing the sport just a year and a half ago. His title in just 10 tournaments made him the fastest wrestler to lift a cup and the first to do so as a debutant in the top category since 1914. He is the first fighter to win a major tournament without still having hair long enough to make an 'oicho', the typical hairstyle of sumo practitioners.
