London announced the expansion of protected areas around the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands. The British announcement implied an extension of the so-called “no take zones” (no fishing zones) by 166,000 square kilometers more than the existing ones.

This would increase the marine habitat protected only by the United Kingdom in waters that Argentina considers its own to 449,000square kilometers. For the British it is an important area, eight times the size of Wales, which is part of the island of Great Britain, and which could in no way be obtained and managed in European seas.
