Tensions rise within the von der Leyen Commission over controversial appointment. In a letter, Commissioner Johannes Hahn recalls that the recruitment of CDU MEP Markus Pieper as SME emissary is a ‘collective decision’ The German elected official is due to take office on April 16.
He will receive more than 18,000 euros per month to occupy this position which was previously honorary. This recruitment continues to make waves within the European Parliament as well as within the Commission. Some see it as a political decision.
