Elon Musk says Tesla will unveil its self-driving robotaxis in August 2024. The electric car giant plans to use unused vehicles with the autopilot system as robotaxis.

Musk believes that the Autopilot system will be so superior in the future that it will seem strange that people have ever driven cars themselves. There is speculation in the US media that Musk could use his robotaxi offensive to distract from negative reports that have to do with the failure of the planned entry-level model. Tesla shares responded to the 52-year-old's latest announcement in the usual manner, climbing several percent on the New York Stock Exchange. The Tesla Cybertruck project shows that several years can pass between the premiere and market launch of a model: The electric pick-up was presented in 2019, but only came onto the market in the USA at the end of last year (2023). Reports about a new Tesla entry- level model have been circulating online for some time.
