Ferry with more than 100 people on board caught fire off the coast of southern Thailand on Thursday April 4. Among the passengers: Thais, foreigners, as well as members of the crew, of Burmese nationality.

The ferry had left the coastal province of Surat Thani on Wednesday evening and was about to arrive at Koh Tao. This place is a popular tourist destination, but also feared. Koh Tao was nicknamed “the island of death’ after a series of deaths and disappearances of foreigners.
