Thailand is one of the most tolerant countries towards the LGBT community in Asia. A bill that would allow same-sex marriage passed by an overwhelming majority in the lower house of parliament.

The law goes to the approval of the Senate and the King before entering the statute book. Thailand will join Taiwan and Nepal, the two other countries in Asia where same- sex marriage is legal. The law will enter into force within 120 days of the king's approval. The bill was formulated for more than a decade, and it was delayed due to political crises and disagreements about its content.
