Tsunami warnings in Japan were issued on Wednesday morning in the south of the country. The earthquake in Taiwan, estimated to be 7.7, was felt with an intensity of 4 - Japanese scale - in the town of Yonaguni near Taiwan.

Fortunately for the islanders, everything ended in a scare: the alerts were downgraded to warnings a few hours after their announcement. Small maritime phenomena similar to tsunamis did occur. None of these "mini-tsunamis" caused human or material damage, Governor Tamaki Denny reported.
