The bill to close the Al Jazeera channel in Israel was approved today (Monday) in second and third reading. The proposal was promoted by Communications Minister Shlomo Karai of the Likud, and it was approved by a majority of 71 supporters against 10 opponents.

The law will remain in effect until July 31, 2024, or alternatively until the end of the declaration of a special situation on the home front. The bill states that if the Prime Minister is convinced that the broadcast content of a foreign channel broadcasting in Israel actually harm the security of the state, the Minister of Communications may order various actions.
