There have been 58 cases in the country in the last three months, a figure that equals the number of cases recorded in all of 2023. Most of the cases were in children a year or older who had not yet received the measles, mumps and rubella, or MMR, vaccine.

Seventeen states have reported cases this year. There was a large outbreak in Florida late last month, and another in Philadelphia in January. In 2021, about 128,000 people, most of them children, died from this disease, according to the WHO.
