Ronald Ojeda, a former lieutenant, was kidnapped in Santiago on February 21. His body was found 10 days later inside a suitcase and buried under cement.

The prosecutor linked the execution to the Aragua Train, a gang that emerged in Venezuela and has operated since 2022 in various regions of the country. The Chilean Executive, in addition, has toughened its tone towards the Maduro Administration this last week after its chancellor, Yván Gil, pointed out on Monday that the gang is “an international media fiction” and that there are even videos of people “with a Chilean and Peruvian accent” who claim to be part of the organization. The Government of President Gabriel Boric has called the Chilean ambassador to Venezuela, the socialist Jaime Gazmuri, for consultation on the case. The Prosecutor Héctor Barros has pointed out this Thursday night that the kidnapping and murder was organized from Venezuela and had a political motive. “So far, I have no other antecedents that point us in the other direction,” said Barros in an interview with the Chilevisión channel.
