The City Police arrest twice as many people as last year but there is an unusual problem. There are 1,952 prisoners housed in Buenos Aires police stations and prisons that are not prepared to house them.

Federal prisons have no place to transfer them. In 2022, according to data from the National Penitentiary Prosecutor's Office, 17,048 people were detained, an average of 46.7 arrests daily. The flow of detainees only increases, but far from becoming a palliative to the problem of insecurity, it generates another: Where do these detainees go? For what purpose are they detained? Is criminal policy efficient?
