The government is expected to approve the appointment of Judge Uri Shaman as chairman of the committee for senior appointments. The retired chief justice, who currently serves as the ombudsman for the judges, will be appointed for a period of 8 years.

The religious Zionist ministers announced that they would vote against the appointment, and some right-wing organizations even sent a letter to the Prime Minister and the ministers demanding that the appointment be canceled. The Shas are also expected to oppose the appointment in light of their history with Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef.
