The head of the LKA assumes that the number of unreported mafiosi is high. Investigators are currently aware of around 170 possible mafias in Baden-Württemberg in the southwest.
Almost a quarter of members of Italian organized crime in Germany lived in the state last year. The mafia infiltrates society “like an octopus” and influences economic, social and political life, says LKA President Andreas Stenger. “The mafia is about exerting influence, claiming power, and infiltrating economic cycles,” he adds.
