President Javier Milei's party has presented a bill to classify abortion as a crime. If it moves forward, the measure would reverse the current legislation, approved in 2020.
The text proposed by La Libertad Avanza is more restrictive than the Penal Code that governed between 1921 and 2020 because it prohibits the interruption of pregnancy even in cases of rape. The measures also contemplate penalties of up to three years against women who abort and up to four years in prison for professionals who help patients terminate the pregnancy.
