The history of one of the large craters of Mars has been reconstructed. Unlike Earth, the surface of Mars is dotted with a large number of craters due to the impacts of asteroids and comets of all sizes.
The impact led to the generation of numerous opal fragments present in the crater, while the heat produced by the impacts led. to the rapid transformation of the water ice present under the surface, in particular the evaporation of the gases present in. the water, causing the formation of numerous wells with a diameter of 200 meters.
