The House approves a measure to detain migrants accused of theft after the murder of Laken Riley. The legislation that Republicans approved with the support of 37 Democrats would also allow states to sue the government for crimes committed by undocumented people.
The Senate is expected to reject it. The bill easily passed 251-170, with all Republicans and 37 Democrats voting in favor. But the nine-page bill was designed more for political flair than law, and has little chance of passing the Democratic-controlled Senate.
