The House of Representatives voted Wednesday night in favor of a $78 billion fiscal package that includes an expansion of the child tax credit. The bill has broad bipartisan support, but faces objections from some quarters, including liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans.

The measure will now go to the Senate, led by Democrats, where it will need 60 votes to be approved. It is not clear that it has the votes to get through the Republican-led Senate. The House approved the bipartisan measure by 357-70, using a fast-track process that requires a two-thirds majority.
