More than 7,000 cameras were delivered to border patrolmen as part of a pilot plan. The cameras will now be extended to all Department of Homeland Security officers.

The announcement comes after heavy scrutiny of immigration authorities over the death of an 8-year-old girl in Border Patrol custody in Texas. The American Civil Liberties Union and other civil rights groups have called on border patrol agents to use the cameras to improve accountability after several high-profile deadly shootings by law enforcement over the past decade.
