The incredible feat of the first American to sail around the world alone on a sailboat. Cole Brauer, 5 feet 2 inches tall, braved 30-foot waves, broke a rib, had to put in a catheter alone, and still took second place in a competition tougher than climbing Everest.

Brauer grew up on Long Island, but didn't learn to sail until he went to college. He changed his goal of being a doctor for life in the water to being a sailor.
